Summary
The primary purpose of the Assistant Director of Nursing is to assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility. The role involves ensuring the highest quality of care, as directed by the Administrator, Medical Director, and/or Director of Nursing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing department, in accordance with applicable laws and guidelines.
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating policies and procedures for the nursing department.
- Ensure reference materials at the nurse’s station are current and helpful.
- Develop and update nursing service objectives and philosophy statements.
- Assist in establishing the nursing organization structure and make recommendations for operational improvements.
- Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
- Ensure staff adhere to their job descriptions and update them as needed.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections.
- Assist in planning the nursing aspects of resident discharge plans.
- Complete administrative duties like reports, evaluations, and charting.
- Monitor quality improvement reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in staffing decisions and recruitment.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels for all shifts.
- Develop work assignments and schedules.
- Delegate responsibilities to Charge Nurses and Supervisors.
- Assist in performance evaluations and conduct daily rounds to monitor standards.
- Handle complaints and grievances appropriately.
- Interpret policies to staff, residents, visitors, and authorities.
- Participate in resident admission and care planning processes.
- Monitor medication administration and treatments.
- Provide direct nursing care when necessary.
- Participate in staff training and safety programs.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in nursing areas.
- Assist in equipment maintenance and safety standards.
- Develop assessments and participate in resident care planning.
- Encourage resident and family participation in care plans.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Nursing Degree from an accredited institution.
- Current unencumbered RN license.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
- Minimum 6 months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing.
- Current CPR certification.
- Proficiency in English communication.
- Team-oriented with decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of nursing laws, regulations, and practices.
- Patience, tact, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to communicate resident information effectively.

- Ability to handle mental and emotional stress.
- Visual and auditory acuity or use of prosthetics.
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and assist in emergency evacuations.
