Job description

Assistant Director of Equipment Operations

Inside Higher Ed is seeking an Assistant Director of Equipment Operations to lead athletic equipment operations for select NCAA Division I sports. The candidate will work under the Director of Equipment to manage budgets, procurement, inventory, staffing, and vendor relationships while ensuring compliance with NCAA rules, NOCSAE, and OSHA standards.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the budget process, procurement, and branding for apparel, game equipment, and facility equipment for selected sports.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Equipment to meet annual ordering windows, host campus visits, and ensure orders are received within contracted terms.
  • Manage package reception, local delivery, and pick‑up for team embellishment, repairs, and mail services (UPS, FedEx, etc.).
  • Maintain a comprehensive electronic inventory program (e.g., Front Rush) to track distribution, collection, inspection, maintenance, and disposal of equipment, shoes, and apparel in accordance with NCAA guidelines.
  • Track replacement costs, useful life cycle, and recommended replacement year for all equipment needs within assigned sports.
  • Supervise temporary staff and work‑study employees in the Franklin Field Team Operations Equipment Room.
  • Assist coaching staff with uniform design and selection of branded apparel, ensuring compliance with branding policies and replacement policies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED and 5–7 years of experience (or equivalent education and experience) required.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2–3 years of work experience preferred.
  • Experience in college athletics or professional sports department preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Nike and Penn purchasing software.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs or more.
  • Must receive AEMA certification within 12 months of hire.
