The Department of Biology at Ball State University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director of the Biomedical Sciences Program. This is a full-time, in-person, 12-month professional position. The Department of Biology is one of the largest and most academically active units within the College of Sciences and Humanities. Building on a long record of excellence in teaching, research, and service, the department provides rigorous, hands-on programs that prepare students for success in the biological and biomedical sciences. Students in the biomedical sciences constitute about 40% of the nearly 850+ majors in the Biology Department. Career readiness, mentoring, and advising are all key elements of our students’ journey.

What you'll do and what you'll bring

Position Function: The primary responsibility for this position is to assist with implementing the Biomedical Sciences program. This includes guiding and managing the program as well as mentoring and advising undergraduates in the program and performing other duties as assigned by the Department Chairperson.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach and assist in the career readiness courses in career readiness courses.
  • Advise students on academics and professional school application preparedness.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, guest speakers, and other professional development opportunities in line with the focus of student programs.
  • Coordinate with the undergraduate curriculum coordinator on program changes and requirements.
  • Participate in recruitment and retention events (may include some evenings and weekends).
  • Support the Director with data gathering, analysis, and report generation.
  • Stay up to date with trends and changes in professional schools and pre-health professions advising via trainings, workshops, and webinars.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Department Chairperson.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
  • At least one year of managerial experience in the biomedical or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching or advising at the university level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with diverse learners.
  • Familiarity with the application processes for health professions programs and schools.
  • Experience partnering with biomedical agencies.
