Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement Initiatives is responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision of Elon’s alumni relationship cultivation and stewardship, volunteerism and professional development efforts.

The Assistant Director is responsible for building relationships with Elon alumni to engage them in activities that will enhance the future of our university. This position will design a strategic approach to identify, cultivate, and steward our alumni as partners, advocates, and investors. This position will communicate with the alumni body regularly via the monthly alumni newsletter and Elon alumni social media accounts.

In addition, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement Initiatives will provide leadership of advancement’s alumni professional engagement efforts including, but not limited to, in-person and virtual professional development, networking opportunities and lifelong learning programs/events. The Assistant Director, in coordination with other colleagues and units across campus, will help develop, build and promote a variety of programming for alumni both on and off campus plus virtually.

In addition, the Assistant Director will be responsible for managing a menu of alumni volunteer opportunities and promoting them to the alumni body. In conjunction with other members of the Alumni Engagement team, the Assistant Director will identify and recruit alumni volunteers and inspire excitement for opportunities. This position will also develop and implement a program of communication with alumni who have completed volunteer roles to inspire future and continued engagement.

The person in this position is expected to be a key leader within the Alumni Engagement team and play a vital role in helping University Advancement achieve its engagement goals.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Requires bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree is a plus and three to five years professional/internship experience in sales, marketing, communications, events, customer service and/or volunteer management preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Position requires the ability to and experience with making presentations to various groups of constituencies. Additionally, the position requires the ability to meet face to face with all levels of constituents and ability to handle constituent complaints. The position requires the ability to work effectively as a team member, work on multiple projects, possess strong leadership, organization, and customer relations skills.

Job Duties

• Connecting with alumni based on Advancement university priorities through email, social media, mailings, phone calls, and face to face meetings either at Elon or in alumni cities of residence.
• Coordinate and facilitate online webinars, workshops, content and digital resources.
• Develop and cultivate partnership(s) with on-campus departments and programs focused on career services and professional development opportunities (SPDC, OLPD, etc.) to highlight existing opportunities and build new programs in partnership.
• Collaborate with University Advancement communications team to manage engagement communications, professional development content and alumni volunteer opportunity promotion using existing platforms such as lifelongelon.com, LinkedIn, monthly newsletter and other social media channels.
• Identifying alumni as for volunteers and board prospects for roles including: Elon Alumni Board, Young Alumni Council, President's Advisory Council, LSB, Communications Advisory Board, National Advisory Board for School of Education, reunion, affinity and class committees, etc. Serve as the liaison for the Young Alumni Council.
• Assisting with Elon events including Senior Class Giving, Homecoming, reunions, Family Weekend, Evenings for Elon, Cheers to Elon, Elon Day, Alumni Awards Weekend, Commencement, chapter activities, athletic events, etc.
• Providing exceptional customer service to our alumni acting with the greatest amount of professionalism and expressing the highest sense of urgency.
• Actively enhancing professional development by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; attending appropriate conferences; building relationships with colleagues at Elon and other institutions; etc.
