Job summary

The New School in New York City seeks an Assistant Director for Financial Advocacy to lead proactive financial wellness initiatives, manage the Emergency Assistance Program budget, and support student success. You will advise students individually, coordinate campus-wide financial literacy efforts, and serve on the CARE Team in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years related work experience.
  • Strong administrative, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice in a diverse community.
  • Experience with student crisis response and on-call service.
  • Ability to handle confidential issues with integrity.
  • Understanding of college student issues and parental concerns.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, creativity, flexibility and collaboration.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Emergency Assistance Program administration and budget.
  • Provide individual financial support advising to students.
  • Lead financial wellness and scholarship initiatives and outreach.
  • Coordinate university-wide training on financial wellness and literacy.
  • Serve as case manager and advocate for distressed students; participate in CARE Team.
  • Develop and evaluate campus resources for student success in critical situations.
  • Maintain crisis incident reports and liaise with leadership during emergencies.
  • Participate in campus events and support residential life and orientation.
