University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks an Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives for the Academic Success Center in Knoxville, TN. This role leads academic recovery programs, oversees dismissal reinstatement and Undergraduate Council Academic Appeals, and partners with campus stakeholders to strengthen student support.

The position reports to the Associate Director, guiding strategic projects, data-informed decision-making, and continuous improvement across initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree is required.
• Minimum one year in higher education administration, student affairs, education, or related field.
• Experience supervising professional staff in an academic support or student success setting.
• Experience collecting, interpreting, and utilizing program or operational data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
• Experience working with students experiencing academic difficulty, including probation, appeals, or dismissal reinstatement processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for academic recovery programs, including dismissal reinstatement and Undergraduate Council Academic Appeals processes.
• Oversee Undergraduate Council Academic Appeals: student communication, committee operations, case preparation, process implementation, and timely follow-up.
• Oversee dismissal reinstatement process with students navigating dismissal and return to the University.
• Collaborate with Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Disability Services, faculty, and academic colleges to strengthen recovery support and implement related processes.
• Evaluate recovery processes and engagement to identify improvement opportunities.
