Job summary

Coach USA, a leading provider of ground transportation in North America, seeks an Assistant Maintenance Manager in Paramus, NJ. You will assist the Maintenance Manager in running daily diesel bus fleet operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance in a union environment.

You will coordinate union technicians, oversee preventive maintenance, manage labor and parts, and help drive fleet uptime and cost control while maintaining high service standards for Coach USA operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; diesel technology training preferred.
• Proven hands-on diesel maintenance experience in a heavy-duty fleet environment.
• Experience leading maintenance staff, or similar supervisory roles, in a union setting.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, bus systems, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Oversight of daily maintenance operations for a private diesel bus fleet, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Direct union technicians, assign work, review progress, and ensure compliance with CBA.
• Coordinate staffing, shift coverage, and labor assignments while aligning with business needs.
• Plan and track preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Promote a safety-first culture and ensure regulatory compliance (DOT/OSHA).
• Provide technical support for diesel engines and bus systems; maintain accurate records.
• Monitor fleet performance data and identify opportunities to improve uptime and reduce costs.
• Assist with parts/inventory control and coordinate with vendors for outsourced work.
• Support training and development of technicians, including apprentices where applicable.
