Responsibilities

  • The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in providing students with opportunities to develop public speaking, critical thinking, research, argumentation, and teamwork skills.
  • Helps plan and lead practices, teaches debate formats and strategies, assists students with research and preparation, and provides constructive feedback to support student growth and competitive success.
  • Works collaboratively with the Head Coach to support the overall goals and expectations of the debate program.
  • May assist with tournament preparation and participation, supervise and mentor students, support team activities, and communicate with school staff and families as appropriate.
  • Helps foster a positive, inclusive, and academically focused team environment.
  • Schedule includes after-school coaching 2.5 hours two days per week, with evenings and weekends for tournaments; travel and extended hours may occur during the season.
  • Proration applies if starting later than two weeks after the season begins.

Assistant Debate Coach

Stipend: $1,550 - $2,583 *See attached 2026-27 salary schedule pending board approval

The Assistant High School Debate Coach supports the Head Coach in providing students with opportunities to develop public speaking, critical thinking, research, argumentation, and teamwork skills. The assistant coach helps plan and lead practices, teaches debate formats and strategies, assists students with research and preparation, and provides constructive feedback to support student growth and competitive success.

The Assistant Coach works collaboratively with the Head Coach to support the overall goals and expectations of the debate program. Additional duties may include assisting with tournament preparation and participation, supervising and mentoring students, supporting team activities, communicating with school staff and families as appropriate, and helping foster a positive, inclusive, and academically focused team environment.

The Assistant Coach is expected to follow the direction of the Head Coach and support consistent program expectations, procedures, and communication. The position may also require assisting with transportation, supervision, and student support during competitions and team activities.

Coaching students is approximately 2.5 hours after school, two days per week, along with evenings and weekends for debate tournaments. During the competition season, the schedule may include travel and extended hours to support students at local, regional, or state events. Additional administrative work is done for preparation.

*Coaches and Advisors who begin more than two weeks after their respective sport or activity begins will have their stipend prorated accordingly. Proration is based on total days worked in the season or activity versus total days of the season or activity.

  • Paid Holidays: This position is not eligible for paid holidays.
  • Paid Time Off: This position is not eligible for paid time off.

*Snoqualmie Valley School District benefits are administered by the Washington State Healthcare Authority (HCA) under the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Eligibility for benefits is determined by the number of hours employees are anticipated to work during the school year (September 1 through August 31). If combined with another position, including substituting, an employee anticipated to work at least 630 hours or more in a year is eligible for benefits.
