Job summary

Jefferson County Joint SD 251 is seeking a Debate Assistant Coach to assist with the administration and operations of the high school debate teams. The role involves providing instruction, attending practices, and ensuring the welfare of students during competitions.

The ideal candidate should be able to work well with students and staff, be patient yet firm, and ideally have some experience with speech and debate. This is an at-will position based in Rigby, Idaho.

Reports to: Building Administrator

Nature and Scope of the Job

In accordance with district policies and procedures, the high school Assistant Debate Coach will assist the High School Debate Coach in all aspects of administration, operations, and coaching of the speech and debate teams.

Performance Responsibilities

• Provides individual and group instruction in preparation for tournament competition.
• Attend weekly practices and travel to week-end tournaments to assist with tournaments and chaperone students.
• Assists in arranging transportation, lodging, and meals for tournament.
• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as requested.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
• Is responsible for the welfare and safety of the students at practice, during competition and while teaching. This includes responsibility for students while on road trips and beyond tournament times (i.e. at motels, restaurants, and before and after tournaments.)
• Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs all other duties assigned.

This is an "at will position" in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. Performance of this position will be evaluated by the building principal.
