Job summary

Northeastern Illinois University is seeking an Assistant Dean of Students for Undocumented Student Resources and Student Care to lead comprehensive support and advocacy for undocumented students and those from mixed-status families. The role emphasizes case management, training for faculty and staff, and collaboration with campus partners to promote inclusion and student success.

The position reports to the Associate Dean of Students within the Division of Student Affairs.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, Social Work, or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience working directly with college students in a diverse higher education setting.
• Demonstrated understanding of the needs and challenges of diverse student populations, including undocumented students and students from mixed-status families.
• Knowledge of immigration-related issues and policies affecting higher education.
• Working knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, VAWA, Clery Act requirements, and due process procedures in higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Experience in educational program development, planning, implementation and assessment.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct Student Support Undocumented Student Resources: assess institutional needs and coordinate strategies.
• Develop, coordinate, and deliver training for faculty and staff on undocumented student support.
• Design, implement, and assess programs to enhance access, retention, and success for undocumented students.
• Conduct ongoing assessment and quality assurance of undocumented student resource services.
• Coordinate and support services for Dream.US scholars.
• Engage in fundraising and scholarship support for undocumented students.
• Facilitate access to financial aid, academic support, and basic needs resources in compliance with policies.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with campus partners and external organizations.
• Case Management, Education, and Outreach: serve as core member of BCT and coordinate interventions across university offices.
• Plan, lead, and facilitate training for faculty and staff related to student support and crisis response.
• Oversee the Advocacy Resources Center (ARC) and promote coaching and mentorship.
• Advance efforts that foster inclusion, belonging, and student well-being.
• Student Care and Advising: provide non-clinical case management, guidance to faculty and families, and navigate resources.
• Advise students on policies, procedures and options relevant to their circumstances.
• Oversee operations of the Student Emergency Fund Committee.
• Other duties: contribute to internal publications, communications, and administer grants when applicable.
