Position Information:

The School of Business at UC Riverside is a nationally ranked and internationally recognized AACSB-accredited business school. Home to the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management (AGSM), which features Ph.D., MBA, Professional MBA, Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAc), Master of Finance (MFin) programs, and Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA). Reporting to the Dean, the Assistant Dean (AD) and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) for the University of California, Riverside- School of Business is a senior-level executive with extensive business, management, and systems experience overseeing diverse and complex units. The AD/CFAO is responsible for the entire scope of financial and business operations, financial reporting, academic personnel, analytics, building operations, facilities, human resources management, and technology operations involving the school's instructional, research, and administrative functions. Oversees and ensures effective coordination with related campus and UC system-wide financial and business operations to provide overall direction and support for program investments, organizations, facilities, and capital programs. Ensures proper accountability and strong division and department adherence to approved budget and spending levels. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the position plays an integral role in developing and executing each of the Dean's long-range goals and objectives, and provides executive leadership and direction in implementing the school's administrative and financial policies and procedures that support the academic mission and goals of the School and the University. Serves as a strategic adviser to the Dean and School leadership in the areas of finance, administrative policy, resource management, space planning and utilization, business processes, and other key areas to support the mission of the Business School. The AD/CFAO manages academic personnel issues, program curriculum, policies and/or procedures that are responsive to the needs of the school and campus goals and objectives. The CFAO may represent the Business School on UCR standing committees and ad hoc committees relevant to financial matters, academic personnel, human resources, facilities, and administrative functions. Proactively builds and maintains UCR relationships.

The full salary range for the Assistant Dean/CFAO position is $123,000 - $241,400 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $123,000 -$211,800 annually. We base salary offers on various considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Minimum Requirements

  6. Very strong ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Thorough knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
  2. Previous experience working in a unionized environment.
  3. Experience with the interpretation of Academic Personnel policies for a diverse group of academic appointees such as Professors, Graduate Student Researchers, Teaching Assistants, Lecturers, Associate Ins, and Readers.
  4. Progressively responsible senior level management experience. Knowledge of business and accounting operations in a large, complex, multi-faceted organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manages, plans and administers administrative operations and/or general operations of a school, OR college, OR a large interdisciplinary department within a school OR a large or multiple-department, non-academic unit.
    • Responsible for overseeing the diverse and complex organization with an extensive undergraduate business program, five self-supporting graduate programs, and a PhD program. This includes the entire scope of the school's financial planning, research, analytics, operations, and resource management. Along with the administrative oversight of the School's information technology, business operations, and academic personnel/human resources offices.
  2. Serves as key administrative officer for unit's functional programs, oversees analysis and policy development for issues and processes. Develops, modifies, and executes organization policies which affect immediate operation(s).
    • Plans, designs, influences, and implements organization-wide processes. Determines and establishes organizational structures and supervisory relationships. Responsible for audit management, internal controls, risk assessment, and abatement, and will play a key role in strategic planning and new program development. Collaborates with Campus counterparts in managing financial administrative issues, with a strong emphasis on central departmental administrative systems and internal controls. The complexity of the School's finances and its heavy reliance on self-supporting funding necessitate a CFAO whose focus is on optimizing the use of the School's limited financial resources, managing compliance and financial risk, along with collaborating with a multitude of stakeholders on high-level strategic planning.
  3. Makes decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives (operational and budget processes, academic and/or staff FTE, finance, human resources, IT and space planning) that have department-wide impact.
    • Oversees the School of Business buildings management. Includes budgetary, logistics, risk management, safety oversight, development, and assessment plans for long-range space allocations and facility improvements. Collaborate with campus stakeholders on School building projects in the areas of Informational Technology and Facilities Services. Understand and follow UCR and UCOP building standards and policies relating to safety, security, and building access, ADA compliance, proper reporting processes, and other similar governing policies. Follow procurement, contracting-out, and other similar governing policies.
  4. May interact with higher-level management on matters concerning several functional areas, and/or customers.
    • Responsible for partnerships with Central HR and mutual campus-wide programs as needed. Connects with the Academic Senate leadership for consultative processes. Responsible for providing high-level strategic direction and planning for academic personnel matters. Serves as a primary consultant for the Deans, Department Chair, and Associate Deans. Represents the School in matters pertaining to Academic Personnel actions for Senate and Non-Senate Academics, which include but are not limited to: compensation, advancement and promotion, recruitment and appointment, leaves of absence, academic grievances, and academic compliance issues, among others. Advises the Dean and Associate Deans on matters relating to collective bargaining and labor relations as they affect academic employees of the school.
  5. Administrative services typically include all or most of the following functions: IT, facilities, student services, laboratories, contracts and grants, budgetary financial management, recharge administration and/or human resources.
    • Develop, establish, and implement the budget planning process across the school, including General Fund requests, self-supporting funds, and financial reporting. Provides fiscal and administrative oversight and management of state funds, self-supporting funds, endowments, and grants. Ability to accomplish results and effectively integrate functions across units and amid competing priorities in a complex multi-mission organization; encourages a commitment to quality, customer-centeredness, productivity, and continuous improvement. Provide leadership to financial, human resources, academic personnel, and building services units.
  6. Interacts with higher-level management on controversial situations, customer negotiations, and/or influencing and persuading others. Formulates policies and guidelines to carry out the department's mission for faculty and students.
    • Oversees the management and administration of personnel functions for academic and staff appointees, including recruitment, appointment, merits and promotions, advancement, retention, conflict management, ELR, performance management, grievances, and compensation issues. Oversees Academic Personnel and Human Resources processes intended to maintain access and equity while managing the implementation of policies and procedures related to academic personnel administration and human resources management.
  7. Maintains integrity of an organizational department through management and oversight of staff.
    • Ensures that expectations for direct reports are clearly communicated. Monitors performance according to goals and objectives. Instills strong management practices among subordinate managers.
