Job summary

Athena is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations, manage the monthly close, and ensure accurate financial reporting. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will guide the accounting team, strengthen internal controls, and coordinate external audits.

The role requires a CPA, 10+ years of accounting leadership, and strong knowledge of GAAP. You will oversee intercompany accounting across entities and drive process improvements in a fast-growing organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required.
• CPA certification strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with focus on GL, financial reporting, month-end close, and reconciliations.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
• Oversee day-to-day general ledger activities including reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany transactions.
• Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and oversight to accounting team members.
• Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
• Coordinate external audits and tax compliance activities with preparation of schedules and supporting documentation.
• Oversee intercompany accounting across multiple legal entities and ensure proper reconciliation and elimination.
• Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes.
• Partner with FP&A and other departments to investigate variances and ensure proper accounting treatment.
• Support Finance Director/Controller with technical accounting matters and system initiatives.
