Job summary

Athena is hiring an Assistant Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting operations and oversee the monthly close.

Reporting to the Finance Director, this role focuses on ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely completion of close cycles across multiple entities. The candidate should have 10+ years in accounting, CPA preferred, and strong ERP experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• CPA certification strongly preferred.
• 10+ years in accounting with GL, close, reconciliations.
• 3+ years in accounting leadership/supervision.
• Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge and internal controls.
• Experience with external audits and tax compliance.
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar ERP systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with journal entries and reconciliations.
• Oversee day-to-day general ledger activities and reconciliations.
• Provide coaching and supervision to accounting staff.
• Maintain and improve accounting policies and internal controls.
• Coordinate external audits and tax compliance efforts.
• Oversee intercompany accounting across entities.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes.
• Collaborate with FP&A and other departments on variances.
• Support Finance Director/Controller on technical accounting matters.
