Job summary

Merlin is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls for a publicly traded defense contractor. Based in Boston, you will supervise a team and partner with Finance, Contracts, and Legal to ensure accurate program-level reporting and compliance.

You will own SEC reporting, ICFR, and government contract accounting processes, including EVM-related reporting and ASC 606 revenue recognition for long-term programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with CPA license.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience; 3+ years in defense/government contracting.
• Strong knowledge of FAR/DFARS/CAS and DCAA audit processes; US GAAP and SEC reporting.
• Experience with ASC 606 revenue recognition for long-term contracts and IPO readiness is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare quarterly/annual SEC filings (10-Q/10-K) in compliance with US GAAP and PCAOB standards.
• Support SOX 404, ICFR testing, remediation, and coordination with external auditors.
• Oversee cost accounting under FAR/DFARS/CAS and government reporting requirements (DCAA, ICS, FPRP).
• Manage monthly, quarterly, annual close; maintain chart of accounts and GL integrity.
• Lead equity administration including stock options, RSUs, and ESPP disclosures.
• Oversee multi-state payroll compliance and cross-functional payroll coordination.
