Job Details

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for supporting the monthly close, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and accounting processes across the organization. This is a hands-on position that will work closely with the Controller and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting fundamentals, enjoys improving processes, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced distribution or inventory-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Controller with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Oversee and review general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reporting.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and other accounting functions as needed.
• Assist with inventory accounting, cost accounting, and reconciliation of inventory-related accounts.
• Monitor and maintain appropriate accounting controls and procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Support external audits, tax filings, and other financial compliance requirements.
• Research and apply GAAP accounting principles to complex transactions.
• Partner with operations, purchasing, sales, and other departments to resolve accounting issues and improve financial processes.
• Assist with special projects, system enhancements, and other initiatives as assigned by the Controller.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Prior experience in an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, or similar role.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger accounting.
• Experience with inventory and/or cost accounting strongly preferred.
• Distribution, food & beverage, manufacturing, retail, or other inventory-based industry experience is a plus.
• Strong Excel skills and experience working with an ERP/accounting system.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams.
