Job summary

Jobot in Mitchell, IL seeks an Assistant Controller to manage general ledger, close, and financial reporting for a growing manufacturing-related business. This on-site role requires strong GAAP knowledge and full-cycle accounting expertise to support operations and drive performance.

The candidate will lead month-end close, coordinate with auditors, and mentor AP/AR staff while maintaining strong internal controls and accurate financial statements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field.
• Progressive accounting/finance experience in manufacturing, food production, or distribution is preferred.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and full-cycle accounting.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting across the general ledger, AP, AR, and financial reporting.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Prepare and review balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and other financial reports.
• Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis.
• Partner with operations to provide financial insights and improve performance.
• Support inventory costing, physical inventory, and cycle counts.
• Strengthen internal controls, policies, and processes as the company grows.
• Coordinate with external auditors and assist with annual audits.
• Provide guidance to AP/AR teams and mentor staff.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting.

What You'll Do

• Manage key day-to-day accounting activities across the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting
• Lead and support month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Prepare and review balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and other financial reports
• Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis
• Partner with operations and other departments to provide financial insight and improve business performance
• Support inventory accounting, costing, physical inventory, and cycle-counting processes
• Help strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes as the organization continues to grow
• Coordinate with external auditors and support the annual audit process
• Provide guidance and mentorship to AP and AR team members
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, reporting, and accounting processes
• Support additional finance and accounting initiatives as needed

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Progressive experience in accounting or finance, ideally within manufacturing, food production, CPG, distribution, or a related environment
• Strong understanding of GAAP and full-cycle accounting
• Hands-on experience with month-end close, financial reporting, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Experience with inventory and/or cost accounting strongly preferred
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work independently while also serving as a collaborative business partner across the organization
• Experience mentoring or leading accounting team members is preferred
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience is a plus
• CPA is a plus, but not required
• Payroll experience, including ADP Workforce Now, is a plus
