Job summary

T. Baker Smith is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. The role ensures accuracy and timeliness of financial information in accordance with GAAP and regulations.

You will lead month-end and year-end closings, analyze variances, and collaborate with leaders on budgeting and project accounting. Travel to client sites and office locations is required as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and internal controls.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports within established deadlines.
• Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and provide recommendations to support leadership and project management decisions.
• Assist in preparing financial information and supporting documentation for external accountants and senior leadership.
• Complete client and vendor reporting requirements as needed.
• Coordinate and perform assigned month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Review accounting transactions for proper coding and compliance with policies.
• Monitor general ledger accuracy and assist in resolving discrepancies.
• Support the Controller in ensuring consistent accounting treatment of transactions.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and project accounting as assigned.
• Perform equipment cost and financial analyses to ensure accurate project costing.
• Analyze project costs and financial performance to support decisions.
• Assist with contract management to support the CFO.
• Support development and application of cost accounting procedures.
• Assist in implementing, monitoring, and maintaining accounting policies and internal controls.
• Prepare and review monthly sales and use tax reporting and assist with tax compliance.
• Assist with external audits and financial reviews, including schedules and documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
• Support ERP and financial reporting systems and implement process improvements.
• Coordinate with external consultants and internal departments on accounting projects.
• Assist with short- and long-term incentive calculations and related analyses.
• Perform special financial projects and analyses.
