Job summary

Ambient Enterprises, via the DMG team, seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to manage financial operations, ensure GAAP compliance, and aid the Controller in preserving the organization's financial health. The role emphasizes accuracy, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities include financial reporting, daily accounting operations, budgeting, internal controls, job costing, and staff supervision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA license strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting standards, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and complex formulas.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in the construction industry, including WIP, job costing, and lien waivers.
  • Knowledge of tax compliance and FP&A and experience with process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Accounting Operations: Oversee daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the finance team to develop budgets, monitor variances, and provide detailed forecasts.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements. Support audits by providing documentation and addressing inquiries.
  • Internal Controls: Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data accuracy.
  • Reconciliations: Perform and review monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Job Costing: Support job costing processes by ensuring accurate allocation of costs to projects, tracking project profitability, and % of completion.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and training to support their professional growth.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements and automation to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
  • Support Controller: Provide strategic and operational support to the Controller and senior management as needed.

About the role: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our finance team. The Assistant Controller will play a vital role in managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the Controller in overseeing the financial health of the organization. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience in the construction industry is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities

Pay Range: $125,000 -$135,000/year or depending on experience
