Assistant Controller Location: Lancaster, PA (4 Days Onsite)
About Opportunity
We are seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to support a manufacturing operation in Lancaster, PA. This position combines traditional controllership responsibilities with manufacturing finance, cost accounting, operational partnership, and process improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable moving between accounting details and plant-floor financial performance, partnering closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and leadership teams to drive business results.
What You\'ll Do
- Lead month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Ensure balance sheet integrity and maintain audit-ready financial records.
- Manage manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and reserve analysis.
- Analyze labor, material, overhead, scrap, yield, and production efficiency variances.
- Partner with plant leadership to explain financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support forecasting, budgeting, annual operating plans, and working capital management.
- Develop and maintain KPIs related to manufacturing performance, inventory, costs, and operational efficiency.
- Strengthen internal controls and support audit requirements.
- Assist with ERP-related initiatives, process optimization, and future system enhancements.
- Coach and support accounting and finance team members while driving a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
What We\'re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting, controllership, manufacturing finance, plant finance, or cost accounting.
- Experience supporting a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of:
- Cost accounting
- Standard costing
- Inventory accounting
- Variance analysis
- Financial reporting
- Month-end close processes
- Experience preparing journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with operational leaders.
- Ability to work onsite in Lancaster, PA four days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or similar professional credential.
- Experience with SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or other ERP systems.
- Background in SOX-controlled or audit-driven environments.
- Prior experience leading, mentoring, or reviewing accounting staff.
- Exposure to ERP implementations, integrations, or system transitions.
- Lean, Kaizen, or continuous improvement experience.
