Job summary

Ascendo Resources is seeking an experienced Controller for our client, a well-established manufacturing organization in Newark, NJ. The role partners with operations leadership to drive financial performance through cost analysis, budgeting, inventory management, and process improvements.

The ideal candidate has extensive manufacturing accounting background, strong knowledge of GAAP and standard costing, and hands-on experience with ERP systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or CMA designation preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, standard costing, inventory accounting, and internal controls.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, NetSuite, Oracle, IQMS, or similar.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across operations and finance.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Maintain and analyze standard costing, BOMs, and manufacturing cost variances.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes for plant operations.
• Monitor inventory valuation, physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and WIP.
• Partner with operations, engineering, and supply chain teams to improve efficiencies and reduce costs.
• Manage the general ledger, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Support audits by coordinating with internal and external auditors.
• Review credit approvals, collections, accruals, and fixed asset accounting.
• Utilize ERP systems and advanced Excel to analyze financial data and support business decisions.
• Mentor and support accounting staff while promoting continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting.
