Job summary

The LHH is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead the finance and accounting function for a private construction and industrial services company in Napa. This role collaborates with operations to improve processes, develop the accounting team, and drive business success.

You will own the close, oversee GL, AP/AR, payroll, project accounting, and financial reporting, and work with executives on budgeting, cash planning, and strategic decisions. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related discipline.
• A substantial accounting background, ideally 10+ years, with at least five years leading an accounting function or taking on Assistant Controller-level responsibilities.
• A strong foundation in GAAP and experience working across reporting, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow.

Responsibilities

• Own the close process and deliver accurate, timely reporting throughout the year.
• Guide the core accounting activities across the GL, payables, receivables, payroll, taxes, and cash.
• Manage job costing, WIP reporting, project profitability, and cost-to-complete analysis.
• Help shape the company’s financial outlook through budgeting, forecasting, and cash planning.
• Work with operational teams on project performance, labor costs, capital investments, and business planning.
• Strengthen financial controls and maintain sound accounting practices in accordance with GAAP.
• Lead the annual audit process and partner with outside audit and tax professionals.
• Coach and develop the accounting team and streamline processes with ERP tools.

The Assistant Controller will lead the finance and accounting function for an established, privately held construction and industrial services company. This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys developing teams, improving processes, and working alongside operations to help drive the business forward.

This confidential organization provides specialized construction and field-based services throughout Northern California. This person will oversee day-to-day accounting and a team responsible for general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, project accounting, and financial reporting.

This position will be based in the Napa and will work closely with accounting, operations, and executive management.

What You’ll Get to Do

You’ll have broad ownership of the accounting function and serve as a trusted resource to executives and operational teams.

• Own the close process and deliver accurate, timely reporting throughout the year
• Guide the core accounting activities across the GL, payables, receivables, payroll, taxes, and cash
• Manage job costing, WIP reporting, project profitability, and cost-to-complete analysis
• Help shape the company’s financial outlook through budgeting, forecasting, and cash planning
• Work with operational teams on project performance, labor costs, capital investments, and business planning
• Strengthen financial controls and maintain sound accounting practices in accordance with GAAP
• Oversee federal and California certified payroll requirements
• Lead the annual audit process and partner with outside audit and tax professionals
• Coach and develop the accounting team
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and make better use of QuickBooks, Concur, Excel, and ERP tools
• Partner with leadership on financial decisions and longer-term business priorities
