Base pay range

$150,000.00/yr - $165,000.00/yr

Are you a strategic and tech-savvy accounting leader ready to build from the ground up? Our client, an innovative venture capital firm based in Los Angeles, is bringing all accounting functions in-house for the first time and is seeking an Assistant Controller to help lead this transformation in partnership with the VP of Finance. This is a unique opportunity to step into a highly visible role, partner closely with leadership, and build the accounting function within a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Apply now!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow), ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP or IFRS).
  • Month-End & Year-End Closing: Lead the closing processes and review financial data to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets, monitor expenditures, and provide financial insights to guide decision-making and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Implement and maintain strong internal controls, ensuring adherence to tax regulations and financial policies. Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise a small team, delegating tasks, mentoring staff, and ensuring accuracy in financial records and processes.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Oversee billing, collections, and vendor payments while managing cash flow and payroll processing.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, implement new accounting software and automation tools, and stay up to date with the latest regulations and technologies.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with departments like PR, Marketing, and Visitor Services to align financial goals and provide insights for strategic decisions.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 5-7+ years of experience in accounting/financial management working in financial services, business management or at a family office.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with SAP Concur and Google Workspace is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, with the capability to collaborate across departments and present financial insights to leadership.
  • Organizational Skills: Highly analytical with excellent organizational and time-management skills, capable of managing multiple priorities.
