Job summary

Northbound Executive Search is seeking an Assistant Controller to join a growing finance team in La Grange, Illinois. The role requires corporate accounting and leadership experience, with full-time onsite work five days a week.

The base compensation ranges from $110,000 to $125,000 plus bonus. The successful candidate will lead the accounting function, develop forecasting, ensure accurate financial reporting, and mentor the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline.
• 5+ years in finance, including GL, close, and treasury/disbursement functions.
• Minimum 2 years in treasury operations or loan funding.
• 2+ years of leadership experience managing teams.
• Mortgage industry experience preferred (2+ years).
• Familiar with Encompass (LOS), NetSuite, and document management platforms.
• Strong knowledge of bank account management and cash flow oversight.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing team by hiring, onboarding, and developing talent; oversee performance and foster continuous growth
• Develop quarterly operating and cash flow forecasts, and conduct financial analysis as directed by the Controller
• Oversee the accounting function, stepping in on day-to-day general ledger entries and sales commission processes as needed
• Review and manage balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring bank accounts are reconciled accurately and on time
• Collaborate with the accounting team to formalize policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate fraud risk
• Ensure the integrity of financial reporting, including preparation of consolidated financial statements where applicable
• Manage disbursement processes and controls, as well as debt reporting and lender covenant compliance
• Mentor and support team members through coaching, training, and professional development initiatives
• Coordinate with an external valuation firm to assess the fair value of retained mortgage servicing rights (MSRs)
• Analyze and interpret legal agreements (such as MLPAs, AMAs, and forward purchase/sale agreements) to determine proper accounting treatment
• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
