Job summary

Joseph’s Classic Market in Palm Beach Gardens, FL is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting function and support the CFO. This hands-on role requires technical strength, organization, and the ability to manage complex accounting tasks.

You will supervise month-end close, GL reconciliations, cash management, AP/AR, and audit support, while mentoring the accounting team and maintaining strong internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger, month-end close, and reconciliations.
• Experience with cash management, AP, AR, accruals, and intercompany accounting.
• Strong Excel and ERP system skills.

Behind that information is an accounting team responsible for ensuring our books are accurate, our accounts are reconciled, our close is completed on time, and our day-to-day financial activity is properly managed.

We’re looking for a Assistant Controller to play a key role in leading the day-to-day accounting function and supporting our CFO. This is a hands-on position for someone who is technically strong, highly organized, comfortable managing complex accounting responsibilities, and capable of helping lead and develop an accounting team.

What You’ll Own

• Month-End Close & Financial Reporting: Help lead the monthly close process, prepare financial statements, record journal entries, review financial activity, and ensure reporting is accurate, complete, and timely.
• General Ledger & Reconciliations: Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and oversee account reconciliations, including cash, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, intercompany accounts, inventory, credit cards, depreciation, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Cash Management: Manage daily cash accounting activity, oversee cash reconciliations and reporting, monitor cash positions, and provide leadership with accurate daily cash information.
• AP & AR Oversight: Support and oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, including aging reviews, check runs, statement reconciliations, collections, payment processing, and escalated issues.
• Accounting Team Leadership: Provide day-to-day direction, review, and mentorship to accounting team members while ensuring deadlines, responsibilities, and accounting standards are consistently met.
• Audit, Compliance & Technical Accounting: Support audits, tax and CPA requests, maintain accounting documentation, and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with appropriate accounting practices and company requirements.
• Accounting Support & Analysis: Maintain financial schedules and accounting files, prepare ad hoc reporting and analysis, support related entities, and help resolve accounting issues as they arise.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, month-end close, financial statements, and account reconciliations
• Experience with cash management, AP, AR, accruals, and intercompany accounting
• Strong Excel and accounting/ERP system skills
• Experience reviewing work and providing guidance to accounting team members
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines
