Job summary

Joseph’s Classic Market in Florida is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting function and support our CFO. This hands-on role requires a technically strong, highly organized professional who can manage complex accounting responsibilities and help develop our accounting team.

You’ll own month-end close, financial reporting, GL integrity, cash management, AP/AR oversight, audits, and ad hoc analyses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, month-end close, financial statements, and account reconciliations.
• Experience with cash management, AP, AR, accruals, and intercompany accounting.
• Strong Excel and accounting/ERP system skills.
• Experience reviewing work and guiding accounting teammates.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end close and financial reporting processes.
• Maintain GL integrity and oversee reconciliations for cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, intercompany accounts, inventory, and other balances.
• Manage daily cash accounting activities and reporting.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes and aging reviews.
• Provide direction and mentorship to the accounting team to meet deadlines and standards.
• Support audits, tax, and CPA requests; ensure proper documentation.

As a growing, family-owned business, we need strong financial information to make strong decisions. Behind that information is an accounting team responsible for ensuring our books are accurate, our accounts are reconciled, our close is completed on time, and our day-to-day financial activity is properly managed.

We’re looking for an Assistant Controller to play a key role in leading the day-to-day accounting function and supporting our CFO. This is a hands-on position for someone who is technically strong, highly organized, comfortable managing complex accounting responsibilities, and capable of helping lead and develop an accounting team.

What You’ll Own

• Month-End Close & Financial Reporting: Help lead the monthly close process, prepare financial statements, record journal entries, review financial activity, and ensure reporting is accurate, complete, and timely.
• General Ledger & Reconciliations: Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and oversee account reconciliations, including cash, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, intercompany accounts, inventory, credit cards, depreciation, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Cash Management: Manage daily cash accounting activity, oversee cash reconciliations and reporting, monitor cash positions, and provide leadership with accurate daily cash information.
• AP & AR Oversight: Support and oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, including aging reviews, check runs, statement reconciliations, collections, payment processing, and escalated issues.
• Accounting Team Leadership: Provide day-to-day direction, review, and mentorship to accounting team members while ensuring deadlines, responsibilities, and accounting standards are consistently met.
• Audit, Compliance & Technical Accounting: Support audits, tax and CPA requests, maintain accounting documentation, and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with appropriate accounting practices and company requirements.
• Accounting Support & Analysis: Maintain financial schedules and accounting files, prepare ad hoc reporting and analysis, support related entities, and help resolve accounting issues as they arise.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, month-end close, financial statements, and account reconciliations
• Experience with cash management, AP, AR, accruals, and intercompany accounting
• Strong Excel and accounting/ERP system skills
• Experience reviewing work and providing guidance to accounting team members
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines
