Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager in Denver, CO to assist the Construction PM/Project Manager/Site Manager/EPC Program Manager with day-to-day safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, and procurement tasks across diverse industries.

You will support proposal development, risk reviews, project staffing, document control, and turnover activities while coordinating with client interfaces and field teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field and 3 years relevant construction experience required.
  • Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access).
  • Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Multiple years of experience on construction project sites or executing program management in the industries of aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, transportation, or water is preferred.
  • A basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Must be able to meet the company's driving requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Construction Project Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager, and EPC Project/Program Manager with day-to-day management of safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, procurement, proposals, estimates, and documentation.
  • Support client interface, field-based activities, turnover, and other duties to execute EPC projects and program management ventures across diverse industries.
  • Adhere to safety programs, training, and policies; collaborate with the project team on Safety & Health performance.
  • Collaborate with Project Management to build client relationships and interface with the client for proposals and project items.
  • Develop and implement Project Execution Plan, Quality Assurance Plan, Safety & Health Plan, Subcontracting Plan, Staffing Plan, Organization Chart, and Procurement Plan.
  • Assist in negotiation, approval, and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
  • Develop project plans for site mobilization/demobilization and support site management.
  • Secure applicable project permits and support bidder pre-qualification.
  • Prepare RFPs, scope of work, bid processes, and contract documents for subcontractor and client selection.
  • Support implementation of project specifications, drawings, and design changes.
  • Execute contract administration: RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, change management, claims mitigation.
  • Support cost reporting, scheduling, WBS, project setup and closeout, and field progress tracking.
  • Prepare information for and report project status, risks, schedule, costs, and cash flows in meetings; distribute minutes.
  • Support invoicing processes for prime contracts, subcontracts, and suppliers.
  • Establish and maintain project documentation and filing systems.
  • Verify insurance, licensures, taxes, and securities per the project requirements.
  • Support safety, quality, progress and financial audits and assessments.
  • Facilitate materials receiving, inventory control, storage, and transportation.
  • Collaborate with Superintendents/Site Managers to verify subcontractor compliance.
  • Facilitate turnover documentation, retention, warranty, and closeout processes.
  • Assist with compliance by applying company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with development of project labor agreements and onboarding of craft supervision.
  • Analyze composite crew rates to determine labor/equipment costs; staff projects with field HR.
  • Monitor labor burdens, craft classifications, benefits, and labor laws.
  • Maintain accurate craft classifications and progression records.
  • Uphold standards of craft competency and training.
  • Estimate, forecast and manage craft install unit rates and production rates to ensure earned value, schedule, change management and cost metrics.
