Job summary

City of Columbia, SC seeks an experienced engineering leader to administer the Operations of an Engineering Division, plan, design and implement city projects, and supervise staff to ensure compliance with policies and safety standards.

The role involves coordinating with City leadership, managing budgets for Capital Improvement Programs, reviewing plans for code compliance, administering contracts, and guiding project management from inception to completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or closely related field.
• Eight (8) years of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License; PE certification in SC.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and direct all activities and operations ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies and safety standards.
• Develop and manage portions of the capital improvement program budget and monitor expenditures.
• Provide special assistance to City Engineer as needed and coordinate with City leadership and external agencies.
• Supervise staff, assign and review work, and handle personnel decisions including promotions and discharges.
• Develop and administer departmental policies, procedures and project contracts; review plans for codes and quality standards.
• Coordinate projects with multiple agencies, departments and external partners; inspect construction progress and ensure compliance.
