Job summary

Auburn University’s School of Aviation is hiring an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor I/II to assist in leadership of flight instructor staff and oversight of the Professional Flight degree program. Reporting to the Chief Flight Instructor, you will help ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and high-quality instruction across flight operations and curriculum delivery.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma with FAA Part 141.36 requirements.
  • 500+ hours as PIC; 1 year flight training experience; total flight hours 250–500.
  • At least 50 hours of instrument flight time; instrument instructor experience 125–200 hours.
  • Level II requires Bachelor's degree in Management, Aviation, or related field; Master’s degree may be required for teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Lead flight instructor staff supervision to achieve standardized instruction.
  • Promote and maintain the highest level of safety for the AU flight training operation.
  • Assist with operational planning related to student progress, equipment acquisition, curriculum development and program strategies.
  • Maintain pilot school documentation and academic records per FAA, VA, and Auburn policy.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Meet FAA policies and regulations for AU's Part 141 certification and examining authority.
  • Coordinate with airport maintenance and operations on safety and operational issues.
  • Evaluate flight students for stage checks and End of Course (EOC) check rides.
  • Schedule instructors and students and verify lessons.
  • Advise students, instructors and staff as needed.
  • Handle various issues after normal business hours (safety incidents, etc.).
