Job summary

Hays Facilities Management, in New York, seeks an Assistant Chief Engineer for a Midtown commercial office. You will report to the Chief Engineer, oversee day-to-day operation and maintenance of building systems, and lead a team of engineers and staff to ensure peak performance.

You will manage preventive maintenance, coordinate repairs, and ensure safety/regulatory compliance while maintaining strong tenant relations and vendor oversight.

Qualifications

• 5+ years operating and maintaining commercial office buildings.
• Experience leading engineers or supervisory teams.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical and building automation systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and vendor relations.
• Familiar with life safety systems and compliance requirements.
• Licensing and certifications preferred (FDNY, NYC Buildings).
• Excellent communication and tenant relations skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist operation and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety and building automation systems.
• Direct engineering staff and contractors to ensure optimal building performance.
• Oversee preventive maintenance and efficient completion of work orders.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and coordinate repairs.
• Monitor vendor performance and assist with capital projects.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
• Maintain strong tenant relationships and coordinate with property management.
