Job Description
Hours: Full-Time – 35 Hours

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Safety & Site Support, seeks an Assistant Chief for the Office of Land Surveying (OLS). The selected candidate will report to the Chief and supervise the overall activities and work product of the unit’s Project Managers. This includes oversight of the numerous requirements contracts for professional land surveying services supporting DDC Infrastructure and Public Buildings capital construction projects. Responsibilities include reviewing capital project work scope and fee proposals, developing schedules, monitoring survey assignments and progress, reviewing invoices, preparing and reviewing payments, and performing various technical aspects related to construction project management and delivery. The candidate will facilitate monthly meetings with consultants to ensure project tasks are progressing on schedule and within budget, address potential delays, develop Standard Operating Procedures and manuals, prepare reports, coordinate with other agencies, monitor and report key performance indicators, and maintain capital project status reports for Senior Management.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER - 34202
A four-year high school diploma or equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or recognized accrediting organization, and five years of full-time experience managing or inspecting construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 each year; or
One year of the above experience plus a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, construction, or related field from an accredited institution; or
One year of the above experience plus a valid license as a professional engineer, registered architect, or landscape architect issued by a duly established board; or
A high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two years of the above experience and the education described above, with credits substituted for experience as specified.
Candidates must specify details for each construction project they worked on, including description, duration, work performed, and budget.
Driver License Requirement: Must have a valid NY motor vehicle driver license. Disqualifications may apply for violations or suspensions. License must be maintained during employment.
For Level II, one additional year of satisfactory full-time experience in Level I or equivalent is required.
For Level III, two additional years of experience in Levels I and II, plus valid NY driver license, are required.
