Assistant Chief Operator of Water Resource Recovery Facility

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) manages water supply, wastewater, stormwater, and pollution reduction for New York City. It employs nearly 6,000 staff and oversees reservoirs, lakes, and treatment facilities across a large watershed.

Position Overview

The Bureau of Water Supply seeks a Supervisor (Watershed Maintenance) II for the Port Jervis Water Resource Recovery Facility, responsible for operations, maintenance, and SPDES compliance of the treatment plant serving Port Jervis, NY.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise Plant Operations staff
• Operate and maintain the computerized maintenance management system
• Develop work schedules and ensure environmental and safety compliance
• Review laboratory results and prepare MOR and DMR reports
• Serve as Chief Operator in their absence

Physical and Environmental Conditions

Position requires standing, walking, lifting, climbing, working in confined spaces, and exposure to chemicals and varying weather conditions. Protective gear is required, and shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays is expected.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• NY State Grade 2 Wastewater Operator Certificate (or ability to obtain)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Avantis, and NetDMR systems
• Data review and entry skills, arithmetic proficiency

Work Details

40 hours/week, shift work including nights and weekends. Location: 46 North Maple Avenue, Port Jervis, NY.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma plus three years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience. For higher levels, additional experience and supervisory capacity are required. Valid NY driver’s license needed.

Additional Information

This position is open to qualified persons with disabilities via the 55-a Program. Residency in NYC is not required. The salary range is $77,452–$97,171 annually.
