Position Summary

The Assistant Athletic Director / Head Softball Coach at Mount Mary University is a key member of the Athletic Department, responsible for overseeing softball and supporting department operations. The role involves coordinating athletic rentals, managing game-day operations, supervising athletic facilities, advising the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and collaborating on departmental budgeting, revenue, recruiting, retention, and development efforts. The individual must embody NAIA values and promote integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

This position works closely with staff, coaches, student-athletes, and university offices to ensure a positive experience for all student-athletes and prospective students. Flexibility in work schedule, including evenings and weekends during peak seasons, is required.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Assistant Athletic Director
    • Participate in the Athletic Department’s senior leadership team, supporting the university’s mission and NAIA philosophy.
    • Assist with budgeting, fundraising, and development activities in collaboration with the Alumnae and Donor Relations department.
    • Ensure compliance with NAIA regulations and report infractions.
    • Coordinate athletic rentals with the university Facilities and Events Coordinator.
    • Advise the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), attend meetings, and guide fundraising and community service efforts.
    • Supervise assigned sports programs, including recruiting support and mentoring coaches.
    • Oversee athletic facilities, including maintenance and rental operations of the Bloechl Center and outdoor fields.
    • Manage student workers, oversee event setup and cleanup, and provide excellent customer service.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  2. Head Softball Coach
    • Coordinate recruiting efforts to meet team benchmarks, utilizing software like Front Rush.
    • Manage softball scholarship budgets and athletic scholarship offers.
    • Plan and conduct practices and competitions, including travel arrangements.
    • Maintain inventory of apparel and equipment.
    • Ensure compliance with NCAA and conference rules.
    • Lead team management, academic monitoring, fundraising, and team-building activities.
    • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate coaching staff and team managers.
    • Attend relevant meetings and promote a positive student-athlete experience.
Skills and Experience
  • 2-5 years of coaching experience; head coaching preferred.
  • Collegiate coaching experience, preferably at the NAIA level.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with relevant software (PrestoSports, Front Rush, Slate, Jenzabar, Hudl).
  • Ability to work independently with high confidentiality.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Background check and motor vehicle record clearance required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with prospective student-athletes.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs., sit, stand, and perform physical tasks.
  • Work hours vary, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
  • Primary location at Milwaukee campus with some remote work flexibility.
