Job summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support Asset Integrity and Asset Management at a client facility in Granite City, IL. This field-based role embeds at the client site, handling mechanical evaluation, repair engineering, and long-term asset planning.

The on-site engineer will translate inspection findings into sound engineering solutions and help the client make risk-based decisions. Independence with office support is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum five years of professional mechanical engineering experience in industrial environments.
• Experience with pressure vessels, piping, rotating equipment, heat exchangers, or similar mechanical plant equipment.
• Experience in asset-intensive industries such as power, oil & gas, refining, chemical, manufacturing, steel, mining, or similar.
• Ability to independently develop engineering evaluations, repair packages, and capital recommendations from inspection data.
• Experience supporting outage planning, capital projects, or turnaround activities in engineering capacity.
• Ability to work independently in a field-based role and communicate with an office team.
• Ability to access structures at elevated heights, confined spaces, and active industrial environments as needed.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site mechanical engineering resource for asset evaluations and recommendations.
• Review inspection findings and translate field data into engineering evaluations.
• Support inspection and repair planning for process equipment and mechanical systems.
• Perform site visits to verify conditions and inform engineering decisions.
• Prepare engineering reports, condition assessments, and technical recommendations for client review.
• Develop repair packages and maintenance recommendations based on evaluations.
• Coordinate with office engineers to ensure sound, code-compliant repair solutions.
• Provide engineering support during repair execution and review submittals.
