Job summary

Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) seeks an Assessment Technician to coordinate and administer standardized and placement tests, accommodated exams, and professional certifications, ensuring a secure and confidential testing environment.

The role involves in-person and remote testing, assisting students with accommodations, managing schedules, and maintaining accurate records in Banner, with strong focus on customer service and compliance with testing standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND One (1) year of experience
  • Experience in teaching or testing is recommended
  • Must complete the 3rd party vendor training and certifications within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Registers students for tests, verifies identification and schedules appointments.
  • Administers and proctors in-person and remote standardized tests with integrity and security.
  • Assists students with testing accommodations and adaptive technology.
  • Troubleshoots testing software and equipment to minimize disruptions.
  • Maintains accurate test records and enters scores into Banner.
  • Provides online remote testing support via Zoom/Teams/WebEx and breakout rooms.
  • Delivers high-quality customer service and addresses inquiries via multiple channels.
  • Follows institutional policies and confidentiality requirements.

Position Summary

The Assessment Technician supports the academic success of students by coordinating and administering a variety of standardized and placement tests, accommodated exams, and professional certification assessments in accordance with institutional, state, and federal guidelines. This position ensures a secure, fair, and professional testing environment while maintaining strict confidentiality and integrity throughout the testing process.

Duties & Responsibilities

Registers students for tests, verifies identification, schedules appointments, and communicates testing procedures clearly and professionally. Administers and proctors in-person and remote standardized tests (including HSE, ESL, and accommodated exams) while upholding testing integrity and security standards. Assists students with disabilities by supporting the use of testing accommodations and adaptive technology, ensuring inclusive and respectful service. Troubleshoots technical issues related to testing software (e.g., TABE/CASAS) and equipment to minimize disruptions and maintain a smooth testing environment. Maintains accurate test records and documentation, enters scores into systems like Banner, and prepares reports for tracking and compliance. Ensures compliance with institutional policies, testing regulations, and security protocols, including maintaining confidentiality and following established procedures. Manages and maintains databases, performs data entry, and creates templates and documentation to support efficient and accurate operations. Facilitates online remote testing through platforms like Zoom, MS Teams, and WebEx, utilizing breakout rooms, screen sharing, and remote support tools. Demonstrates professionalism and reliability by working independently, meeting deadlines, problem-solving effectively, and supporting team and departmental goals. Provides high-quality customer service by welcoming students and visitors, responding to inquiries via phone, email, chat, and in-person, and ensuring a positive testing experience. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND One (1) year of experience
  • Experience in teaching or testing is recommended
  • Must complete the 3rd party vendor training and certifications below within 6 months of hire: Accuplacer (CollegeBoard) in-person & remote, ATI TEAS in-person & remote, CLEP (CollegeBoard), GED (PearsonVUE), HiSET (ETS), SACA (Mechatronics), Praxis (ETS)
  • Must complete the in-house training below within 6 months of hire: Accessibility Services testing, AVANT language testing, CASAS & TABE, CNM Course testing, CNM Challenge exams, CTS Surg. Tech. (PSI), IC3 (Certiport), IC3 Practice (Gmetrix), CNM Make-up testing, P/P Challenge exams, RegisterBlast, Spanish/Biology/French/Placement (remote & in-person)
Preferences
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • One year experience administering and proctoring exams.
  • Experience entering and retrieving data using database applications.
  • Familiarity with online meeting platforms (i.e., Zoom, WebEx, etc.), including the use of breakout rooms, screen sharing, and remote support features.
  • Experience performing minor trouble shooting of computer-based testing programs.
