Job Description

Reporting to the Foreman, the Paver Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt paver. This position operates paving machines to spread and level hot mix paving material on driveways, parking lots, streets, and pathways.

Responsibilities

• Operate the paver and other heavy equipment safely and appropriately.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
• Preheat paving screed before asphalt placement and monitor temperature settings.
• Manually light burners if needed to start heating units and regulate screed temperature.
• Control paver operations including lowering the screed auger, managing the hopper, and navigating the paver.
• Align the paver with the work area and ensure proper asphalt application, smoothing it evenly to the desired specifications.
• Monitor the temperature of asphalt flowing from the hopper.
• Train new employees on safe and efficient paver operation.
• Ensure compliance with the company's Code of Ethics and safety policies.

Safety and Teamwork

• Promote and adhere to safety protocols; participate in safety meetings and inspections.
• Investigate incidents and ensure proper procedures are followed.
• Work collaboratively with team members and support organizational success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• Class A Driver’s License preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience in construction, with 2 years operating a Paver.

Desired Skills

• Knowledge of heavy equipment and asphalt construction materials.
• Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
• Additional industry experience is a plus.

Working Conditions

• Overtime may be required.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Physical ability to lift at least 50 lbs regularly.
• Use of PPE and adherence to drug and alcohol policies.
