Asphalt Paver Operator Job Description

Reporting to the Foreman, the Paver Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt paver. This position operates paving machines to spread and level hot mix paving material on driveways, parking lots, streets, and pathways.

Responsibilities

• Operate the paver and other heavy equipment safely and appropriately.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks.
• Preheat the paving screed before asphalt placement and monitor temperature settings.
• Manually light burners if needed to start heating units and regulate screed temperature.
• Control the paver's controls to manage the screed auger, hopper, and direction.
• Align the paver with the work area, maintain asphalt flow, and push the dump truck safely.
• Distribute paving material evenly, eliminate voids, and ensure proper application.
• Monitor asphalt temperature from the hopper.
• Train new employees on safe operation.
• Ensure compliance with the company's Code of Ethics and evaluate situations accordingly.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
