Job Description

Reporting to the Foreman, the Paver Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt paver. This position operates paving machines to spread and level hot mix paving material on driveways, parking lots, streets, and pathways.

Responsibilities

• Operate the paver and other heavy equipment safely and appropriately.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
• Preheat the paving screed before asphalt placement and monitor temperature settings.
• Manually light burners if needed to start heating units and regulate screed temperature.
• Control the paver's functions to manage the screed, hopper, and direction.
• Align the paver with the work area, ensure proper asphalt application, and maintain a steady flow from the dump truck.
• Monitor asphalt temperature and distribution, and adjust as needed to eliminate voids.
• Train new employees on safe operation procedures.
• Ensure compliance with the company’s Code of Ethics and safety policies.

Safety and Teamwork

• Promote and adhere to safety protocols, attend safety meetings, and participate in incident investigations.
• Collaborate with team members and support organizational success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• Class A Driver’s License preferred.
• At least three years of experience in construction, with two years operating a Paver.

Desired Skills

• Knowledge of heavy equipment and asphalt construction materials.
• Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
• Additional experience in construction industry is advantageous.

Working Conditions

• Overtime may be required.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions, with physical demands including lifting at least 50 lbs.
• Use of PPE is mandatory, and sun protection is recommended.
• Compliance with drug and alcohol policies is required.
