Job Description

Reporting to the Foreman, the Paver Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt paver. This position operates paving machines to spread and level hot mix paving material on driveways, parking lots, streets, and pathways.

Responsibilities

• Operate the paver and other heavy equipment safely and appropriately.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
• Preheat paving screed before asphalt placement and monitor temperature settings.
• Manually light burners if needed to start heating units and regulate screed temperature.
• Control the paver's functions to lower the screed auger, manage the hopper, and steer the machine.
• Align the paver with the work area, maintain asphalt flow, and push the dump truck safely.
• Distribute paving material evenly, ensuring proper application and smoothing.
• Monitor asphalt temperature and train new employees in safe operation.
• Comply with the company's Code of Ethics and evaluate situations accordingly.

Safety and Teamwork

• Adhere to safety protocols, attend safety meetings, and participate in incident investigations.
• Promote a safety culture among all workers.
• Contribute as a team member, support organizational success, and collaborate on projects.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• Class A Driver’s License preferred.
• At least three years in construction, with two years operating a Paver.

Desired Skills

• Knowledge of heavy equipment and asphalt construction materials.
• Understanding of electronic controls.
• Additional industry experience is a plus.

Working Conditions

• Overtime required.
• Outdoor work with exposure to weather, dust, and asphalt.
• Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly.
• Use of PPE and adherence to drug testing policies.
