Job summary

Mountain Enterprises, Inc., a CRH Company, is seeking an asphalt paving machine operator to join our team in Kentucky. You will report to the Paving Foreman and may need a CDL Tanker and HAZMAT endorsement depending on location.

Responsibilities include operating equipment safely, controlling materials, and ensuring proper paving patterns and compaction while maintaining safety standards and performing basic maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; two years related asphalt and road construction experience.
• Prior experience with asphalt paving equipment.
• Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
• Pass pre-employment 'Fit for Work' physical.
• Be able to provide I-9 documentation.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Control material into the paver and adjust depths of material.
• Understand grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, oil content and compaction.
• Perform minor servicing/maintenance or refer major problems to supervisor.
• Follow manager directions daily and ensure safe work environment.
• Adhere to OSHA/MSHA safety procedures and company policies.
• Communicate effectively and work in a team environment.

Primary Function

This is a highly skilled position involving the control and operation of the asphalt paving machine. This position will report directly to the Paving Foreman. Based on geographical location this position may require a CDL Tanker and HAZMAT endorsement.

Position Requirements

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently
• Control material taken into the paver and the depths of material distributed through the machine
• Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving;
• The operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor;
• Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site;
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
• Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment;
• Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently;
• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; and
• Perform any other general duties as specified.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and two years related asphalt and road construction experience;
• Prior experience with asphalt paving equipment;
• Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check;
• Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical;
• Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document;
• Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
• Report to work at the designated start time;

Minimum Qualifications Continued

• Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. This job is for a portable paving crew requiring extensive travel;
• Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary;
• Be able to work overtime when required;Maintain current driver’s license that meets state requirements;
• Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards;
• Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold;
• Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook;
• Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required;
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA;
• Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment; and
• Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.
