Job summary

CRH Mountain Companies in Kentucky is seeking a crew member to operate asphalt pavers and control screed extensions for highways and driveways. The role requires teamwork, physical stamina, and strict adherence to safety and PPE policies.

Union position with potential eligibility for local Steelworkers Union. CDL preferred and background checks required. Regular long shifts and possible out-of-town assignments are part of the role.

Qualifications

Job Description Summary

• Crew member essential to the application of asphalt on highways/private roadways/parking lots/ and driveways through the operation of screed controls.
• Operation of asphalt paver making adjustments to obtain proper depth and grade of asphalt via screed extensions
• This is a highly skilled position involving the control and operation of the distributor machine. Class A or B CDL is required with Tanker Endorsement.
• May be required to use hand tools to complete the job

This is a union position - Successful candidate may become part of the local 14581 Steelworkers Union (if not already a member) if they so choose.

Requirements

• Operation of the asphalt paver making normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finish cross section of asphalt material via screed extensions.
• Must partner with other crew members to apply asphalt per plan specifications and perform tasks of other positions as instructed by crew foreman to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.
• May perform other related duties such as adding or removing screed extensions.
• May be required to use the following tools: brooms, pick, mattock, axe, brush hook, hammer, saw, pneumatic hammer/drill, tamps (both manual and power driven), sample saw, concrete saw, sledge hammer, as well as other tools needed to complete jobs within specifications.
• Physical ability to operate equipment under temperature extremes and for extended hours of time. Normal shift is 8-12 hours.
• Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal efficiency level.
• Attitude/Cooperation: Must always maintain a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers, public.
• Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work required. Out of town/county/state work may be required.
• Ability to adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition.
• Initiative to perform/assist with other positions for job completion. Periodic use of truck, transporting water, fuel, and/or bituminous emulsions.
• Must pass drug test and criminal background check.
• This is a union position - Successful candidate will become part of the local 14581 Steelworkers Union (if not already a member).

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• CDL Preferred
• 2 years road construction experience
