Primary Purpose

The ASM Technician I provides pre-analytic and post-analytic support for laboratory testing sections within ARUP. Duties include maintaining specimen integrity during transport to laboratory sections, storing specimens, providing first level support for maintenance and troubleshooting equipment and automation, and delivering excellent customer service to all members of the ARUP workforce.

Essential Functions

• Handle specimens accurately during transport according to departmental procedures.
• Manage specimens on the automated track system.
• Store specimens in the AS/RS system, in both automated and manual modes.
• Develop proficiency with automation systems and laboratory information systems such as MasterControl, LEaP, Millennium, LTD, and others.
• Maintain work area and equipment, documenting cleaning and maintenance.
• Understand and participate in the Quality Assurance program.
• Develop critical thinking skills and demonstrate initiative in training and workload management.
• Comply with safety regulations and participate in ongoing training.
• Assist others and contribute to team efforts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical and Other Requirements

• Stooping, reaching, mobility within the work site.
• Communicate frequently, use PPE in a biohazard environment.
• Exert up to 10 pounds of force, fine motor control, visual acuity, and color perception.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent or better.
• Experience: Preferred 1 year laboratory experience.
