Department: Specimen Processing - 232
Primary Purpose :
The Processing Delivery Technician works under general supervision of the Specimen Processing (SP) management team to properly handle specimens received at ARUP’s central facility and prepares and transports specimens for laboratory testing. The position includes such functions as communicating closely with Specimen Processors and ASM Technicians, and to assist with any non-processing duties as needed within the SP department. Attends Specimen Processing team and staff meetings. Routinely pick up specimens of different temperatures.

Essential Functions :
Attends Specimen Processing team and staff meetings.
Routinely pick up specimens of different temperatures
Immediately deliver specimens to the Automated Specimen Management (ASM) area as they become available from the Specimen Processing workstations
Properly handle ambient, refrigerated, and frozen specimens
Is familiar and able to recognize all specimen types/containers
Organizes STC’s by regularly checking and emptying STC collection bins and distributing to processing staff
Stock all department copiers with paper
Clean and check all temperature carts throughout shift
Perform and document weekly maintenance on Eye Wash Station
Properly Maintain and refresh “Local” bins at beginning of shift and throughout shift
Understands the departmental applications within ARUP’s LIS software and required functions
Empty garbage bins by SP hand washing sink
Stock processing stations
Communicate/Cooperate with PDT’s and/or Leads for all attendance and/or additional needs/concerns
Collect and clean Tissue Transport Kits from labs
Perform and document daily/monthly maintenance for Centrifuge and Biohazard Cabinet
Clean and clear empty shipping boxes off of the floor as needed
Removal of excess dry ice and gel pack bins (discard bins) from floor
Performs cleaning duties as assigned
Adheres to all safety policies and regulations including, but not limited to, proper dress code and using proper protective clothing and other equipment
Other duties as assigned
Physical and Other Requirements :
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Effective communication skills.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company/departmental policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Abide by the Code of Conduct as outlined in the ARUP employee handbook.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working,
primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish colors.
Regular and reliable attendance.

High School Diploma or Equivalent or better.
One year Laboratory experience
