Job summary

Avamere Skilled Advisors, LLC seeks an ASL Staff Interpreter at Avamere at Chestnut Lane in Gresham, Oregon. The interpreter will provide critical communication access for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf Blind residents using ASL and tactile signing, linking residents with staff and medical teams.

Role is part-time and on-call (PRN) with Saturday shifts available. Must have RID/BEI certification, 2–3 years interpreting experience, and CPR/BLS active.

Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and specialized tactile and close-vision interpreting techniques.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of professional interpreting experience; preference for senior living, healthcare, or Deaf Blind support.
• State certification such as SSP, First Aid, CPR/BLS maintained during employment.

Responsibilities

• Interpret between residents, staff, and medical personnel using ASL, English, and tactile signing.
• Narrate visual/environmental information for Deaf Blind residents.
• Develop individualized support plans with residents and nursing staff.
• Educate facility staff on Deaf culture and accessible communication methods.
• Assist residents with ADLs, mobility, and community activities.
