Job summary

Ohio State University in Columbus is seeking a Lecturer for the American Sign Language Program to teach four in-person courses each semester (eight annually). This is a three-year appointment with renewal potential.

The lecturer will develop syllabi, prepare instructional materials, hold regular office hours, evaluate student work, and coordinate with colleagues to support program goals and student learning on the Columbus campus.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in Teaching ASL as a Foreign/Second Language, Education, Linguistics, Deaf Studies, Interpreting, or a closely related field.
• Native or near-native fluency in ASL.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ASL linguistics and the use of ASL in language instruction.
• Knowledge of Deaf culture and Deaf history.
• Broad experience and engagement within the Deaf community.
• Sensitivity to issues affecting the Deaf community.
• Demonstrated ability and commitment to work effectively as a collaborative member of a team.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
• Teach assigned classes and hold office hours in accordance with university policy.
• Ensure curriculum implementation and course preparation align with department standards.
• Prepare, evaluate, and return homework, exams, and other student work in a timely manner to support student learning.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades in accordance with established university deadlines.
• Maintain the confidentiality of student information in compliance with FERPA.
• Attend faculty meetings and collaborate with colleagues.
