Job summary

East Jefferson High School in Metairie, LA is seeking a Special Education Hearing Interpreter for Deaf/Hard of Hearing to support D/HH students in the general curriculum.

Responsibilities include interpreting lessons, meetings, and IEP discussions, using Total Communication, and preparing materials to support individualized instruction. Requires BESE Ancillary Qualified Certificate and EIPA or Cued Speech proficiency; strong ethics and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires 48 college hours and BESE Ancillary Qualified Certificate.
• Must know Total Communication and sign language interpretation.
• EIPA 3.0 videotaped or Basic Cued Speech proficiency required.
• Continuing education: 18 contact hours per year average.
• Desirable: EIPA 3.5.

Responsibilities

• Interprets lessons for students and interprets messages for teachers and students.
• Interprets for faculty, meetings and IEP meetings for D/HH students.
• Maintains materials and develops signs; teaches signs to students.
• Follows ethics and school policies; supports classroom instruction.
• Assists with scheduling, attendance, and related duties as needed.
