Position Summary
Pacific Symphony seeks a highly skilled Art Director and Senior Graphic Designer to lead the visual direction and execution of compelling, on-brand creative across a range of print and digital media—including brochures, websites, advertising campaigns, program books, brand identity materials, and more. This position plays a critical role in shaping the Symphony’s visual voice, inspiring audiences, and ensuring a cohesive and elevated brand presence across all touchpoints.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the development of visual concepts from ideation to execution, setting a high standard for design excellence and brand consistency across all channels.
- Strategic Collaboration:
- Partner closely with the Marketing & Communications team, leadership, and external agencies/vendors to develop integrated campaigns and creative assets that meet business objectives and elevate brand storytelling.
- Design Execution:
- Use Adobe Creative Suite to design a wide variety of print and digital materials, including brand campaigns, advertising, event signage, brochures, flyers, postcards, social media graphics, and web assets, ensuring alignment with Pacific Symphony’s visual identity and strategic goals.
- Brand Stewardship:
- Champion and evolve the Pacific Symphony brand guidelines. Ensure all creative output consistently reflects brand voice, aesthetic quality, and organizational values.
- Project Management:
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously with exceptional attention to detail and efficiency. Set priorities, establish timelines, traffic projects internally, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Act as a creative partner and advisor to other departments, translating diverse project needs into strategic, effective design solutions.
- Work directly with print vendors, photographers, and contractors to produce high-quality deliverables, from initial concept through final production.
- Asset Management:
- Maintain organized archives of creative assets and design files. Ensure all projects are properly cataloged for future use and reference.
- Trend Monitoring & Innovation:
- Stay informed about evolving design trends, emerging technologies, and creative best practices, proactively integrating fresh ideas to keep Pacific Symphony's brand current and vibrant.
- Foster creative excellence across the team by mentoring junior designers (if applicable), offering constructive feedback, and setting an inspiring example.
- Other Duties:
- Contribute to overall team success by performing additional projects and assignments as needed.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field; master’s degree or additional certifications a plus.
- 7–10 years of progressive design experience, with a proven track record as a senior-level designer and/or art director.
- Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Deep understanding of branding, typography, color theory, layout, composition, and UX/UI basics.
- Strong conceptual thinking skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, inspiring visuals.
- Experience leading creative direction on brand or campaign initiatives across multiple platforms.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate design choices, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and present ideas to leadership.
- Ability to manage high-volume workflows independently, while balancing strategic oversight with hands-on design work.
- Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Previous experience working in an arts, culture, or nonprofit environment highly preferred.
- A passion for the arts and belief in the power of music to inspire and connect communities
