Job summary

Shelter House in Alexandria, VA seeks a Residential Coordinator to provide 24-hour awake coverage for 20 efficiency-style apartments, serving single individuals. You will be the first point of contact for clients and handle crisis intervention, front desk operations, and safety management.

Work closely with case managers, document daily logs, perform rounds, organize supplies, and support the living environment while upholding iC.A.R.E. values.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of experience in human services field (e.g., mental health, homeless services, domestic violence).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safe functioning of the shelter and maintain a safe environment for clients; monitor front desk inquiries.
• Perform rounds and monitor the building interior and exterior.
• Update the daily log documenting interactions and events in the shelter.
• Collaborate with case managers to support service plans and client progress.
• Complete shift exchanges and report daily activities to maintain consistency.
• Ensure Shelter House log documentation complies with agency practices.
• Assess basic needs, distribute items, and assist with supplies and linens.
• Conduct residential cleaning and light upkeep of shelter spaces.
• Organize restocking of supplies and perform unit inspections.
• Maintain confidentiality and dignity of clients; apply emergency procedures as needed.
• Support donations, volunteers, and participate in staff meetings and trainings.
