Job summary

Ascension in Wichita, KS, seeks an armed security professional for the night shift to protect the clinical environment and respond swiftly to life-safety events. You will work within Via Christi, St.

Francis, contributing to a secure, healing setting for patients, visitors, and staff. The role requires licensure in security, a Kansas driver's license, and preferably BLS, with a preference for law enforcement background and aggressive-behavior credentials.

Qualifications

• Security guard license required within 6 months of hire.
• Driver's license credentialed from Kansas DMV.
• BLS provider preferred (American Heart Association or Red Cross accepted).
• Law enforcement experience preferred.
• Management of Aggressive Behavior credentialed preferred.
• Security professional preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a highly visible armed presence to deter violence and provide an immediate, expert response to life-safety threats.
• De-escalate high-tension situations using advanced communication and tactical positioning to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and healthcare providers.
• Govern the facility's emergency response by leading coordinated actions during critical incidents, ensuring all security interventions prioritize the preservation of life.
• Audit safety infrastructure and report on security hazards, ensuring that the physical environment remains a fortified yet welcoming space for healing.
• Document critical incidents with precision, providing the legal and operational clarity required for high-level risk management and regulatory compliance.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Security Guard obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Drivers License credentialed from the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles required.
• BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Law Enforcement preferred.
• Management of Aggressive Behavior credentialed from the Management of Aggressive Behavior Training International, Inc preferred.
• Security Professional preferred.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Additional Preferences

• A minimum of 1-3 years of professional experience in a security, military, or law enforcement role, preferably within a healthcare or high-traffic service environment.
