Job summary

UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital is seeking an Armed Public Safety Officer to protect staff, patients, and visitors in a 100% onsite role within the Safety Department. The officer conducts patrols, responds to emergencies, enforces policies, and coordinates with law enforcement at Ingalls facilities around the Chicagoland area.

Qualified candidates hold a high school diploma, Illinois FOID, CPR, and a 40-hour armed security certification with firearm requalification.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR certification required.
• Illinois FOID and firearm ownership documents.
• 40-hour armed security officer certification with firearm requalification within 6 months.
• IAHSS Basic Certified Healthcare Security Officer within 6 months.
• CPI Verbal Intervention training within 60 days.
• FEMA IS-100/IS-200 within six months.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency situations on campus with safe, timely action.
• Conduct patrols of facilities and grounds to deter hazards and locate assistance.
• Secure security-sensitive areas and enforce policies.
• Assist with access control, badges, parking and safety procedures.
• Investigate and document safety hazards or incidents.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance for PHI.
• Coordinate with law enforcement and fire services.
• Complete incident reports promptly and accurately.
• Understand Dispatch operations and provide relief as needed.
• Search for contraband when required.
• Transport patients, visitors, and staff as needed.
• Manage patient belongings securely.
• Maintain posts in Emergency Department areas and assist clinical staff.
