Position: Area Operations Manager - Industrial Construction
Reports To: Regional Manager
Position Overview:
The successful candidate will have experience managing a construction area with approximately $30M in revenue. Responsibilities include overseeing the full financial lifecycle of projects, recruiting, dispatching, and managing all craft employees in industrial construction. The role involves directing and assisting Project Managers, Superintendents, and General Foremen to ensure projects are profitable, safe, timely, and of high quality. Additionally, the candidate will support the Regional Manager and the Industrial Construction Management team in coordinating various activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish goals for profitability and growth within the area.
- Develop marketing, business development, and expansion plans.
- Manage all salary and craft employees in the area.
- Oversee project budgets, including cost control and forecasting.
- Create organizational plans for area-wide operations.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Communicate effectively with field teams to ensure project accuracy and budget adherence.
- Manage budgets and resources to meet financial targets.
- Conduct contractual meetings such as pre-bid, negotiations, and post-project reviews.
- Implement operational strategies aligned with business goals.
- Lead and supervise cross-functional teams to foster collaboration and professionalism.
- Manage initiation, planning, and execution of complex projects.
- Support estimating efforts through bid and constructability reviews.
- Ensure safety and environmental standards are met.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and subcontractor resources with Project Managers and other teams.
- Ensure team compliance with safety and work policies.
- Provide training to ensure proper operation of equipment and installation tasks.
- Plan and review safety and quality at job sites.
- Collaborate across operations to identify new opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years in industrial construction, with at least 5 years as a foreman and 5 as a superintendent.
- Progressive management experience in operations and contract administration.
- Experience managing projects with multiple crews and at least 250 craft employees.
- OSHA or equivalent safety training.
- Experience with HCSS Heavy Job or similar cost management software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Must be 21+ years old to operate company vehicles, with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and confined spaces.
- Experience working in manufacturing and refining environments.
- Ability to navigate confined spaces, limited working surfaces, and elevated areas.
- Physical ability to lift 1-50 pounds as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability if driving is required.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, crawl, and kneel for extended periods.
- Use of respirators if required.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
